Best Methods of Horses Mating

Some horse owners new to breeding are quite embarrassed by the functions involved in horses mating and the best methods to get proven results from each breeding encounter. There are two main methods used in producing results from your horses mating: pasture breeding, and hand breeding. Of those two, hand breeding is the one that is proven to be the most reliable method, but it is the one that also produces the most embarrassment for beginning breeders.

Pasture Breeding

Pasture breeding is the simplest form of breeding in that the only thing that needs to be done is to release a stallion in with one or more selected mares to be bred and leave them alone to do what nature intended them to do. There is no need to watch your horses mating, in fact, it may be near to impossible to catch some of the shyer stallions in the act although most are quite exhibitionist in nature and have no shame in doing their thing in full view of anyone who desires to watch.
Some of the pros of pasture breeding are:

o No embarrassment-There is no need to watch.
o Less hassle-Horses are simply left together and the time spent is only in putting them out in the pasture.
o Physically less dangerous for the owners-Since there is no contact with the animals involved during the mating it is safer for the owners.

Some of the cons regarding pasture breeding horse mating methods are:

o No Assurance-Since you are not likely to stand watch 24/7 to ensure the stallions have successfully mated with the mares in question there is no way to tell for sure that the mating took place.
o Unknown breeding dates-While you will know the average range of dates calculated from the day you released the stallion in with the mares to the day you took him out of the pasture that the foal may be due you cannot know the exact date of expectancy making it harder for you to be present when a foal is born.
o Stallion risks-One reason so many valuable stallions are only live bred by hand are that in a free and open situation a reluctant mare can seriously damage the stallion as he attempts to seduce and mate with her. There have been many instances where extremely valuable animals were even castrated by a well aimed kick from an angry mare.

Hand Breeding

By far the most popular method of getting the best results from horses mating is using the hand breeding method. This ensures copulation in a safe and controlled situation where the dangers to the stallion are also greatly reduced.

In this method the stallion is lead on a lead rope to where the mare is being held and allowed to court and then mount. If a mare becomes reluctant, or even violent the stallion can be pulled away to keep him safe. It is imperative that a stallion be taught impeccable ground manners beforehand so that they are completely controllable even when hormonally aroused. This method is also best because if a stallion is successful in courting and the mare is willing but he has trouble getting the proper position he can be assisted by hand to ensure the copulation actually takes place.

Pros of hand breeding are:

o Insured insemination
o Accurate delivery dates-Since you are present at the breeding you know exactly when to calculate the arrival of an expected foal. This allows you to be present should any difficulties occur during delivery and possibly prevent the loss of a valuable foal.

Devising Dog Training Aids For Protection Training

Training a dog for protection purposes requires a dog to undergo extensive training from a very early age. A dog which is required to be trained to be employed for protection needs to have very high level of obedience training. The requirement arises from the need to be in total control of his aggressive nature which has to be turned on and off just on the word of command of the handler.

What has to b kept in mind is that guard dog and attack dog training is entirely different from protection. A protection dog which is usually used by the police needs to act on the word of his handler. He is expected to show his aggressive nature to the maximum and to become docile on the very next order and stop his action immediately and withdraw.

A pup around 6- 8 weeks starts undergoing this sort of training as a fun game while the handler trains him using a rag or a similar object to chase and rip apart as a dog training aid. This training aid is replaced by a bad filled with saw dust as the dog grows older and takes the figure of a person.

By the time he turns 2 years, the dog is shifted to a bite suit or a sleeve as a dog training aid. The subject by this time learns to turn his aggression on and off just by the word of the handler and can concentrate on his target specifically as identified by the handler.

On the other hand a guard or attack dog does not need to exercise that much control and practice obedience as a protection dog does. This all is done by channelizing a dog's natural instincts in an organized manner to get the maximum benefit for the mankind.

Dog Training - Teach Your Dog to Stay

You would be surprised to see how much a dog can make you dance to his tune. It can be an exasperating task running after your dog, chasing tennis balls, fetching treats, and fuming and fretting when you can no more handle this chaos, your dog however enjoys it. It therefore becomes necessary to assert your alpha status to tell him YOU are in command. In order to train your dog and teach him basic etiquettes, you first need to teach your dog to stay so that he remains stationary allowing you to take control of the situation. Before you move on to the "stay" command, you must first train your dog to "sit" with the help of verbal signals and gestures. Many trainers use the technique of snapping fingers and flipping their extended finger at the same time at an angle to the ground so as to grab his attention. This works well for trainers who are averse to use clickers for directing dogs.

When it comes to training pups, teen or mature dogs in the "sit", you may consider a common technique wherein you need to thrust a hand in the dog's direction palm first and fingers raised and simultaneously give out the voice command 'stay'. One this you must remember here is that your voice should be distinct and just loud enough to be heard despite other noises and distractions and must not sound harsh. Similarly, hand movements must be precise and should be such that the dog can associate them to that particular command/behavior only. Having done this, you need to confirm if the dog is following your instructions. So, take a step back and repeat the hand movements to execute a sit and stay command when the dog follows. Some dogs may not bother to respond or may not have yet understood the correlation of the command and the behavior. For such dogs, you need to lure them with a treat or toy and move it over his head, a little on the side of his eyes in such a way that he has to force his chin in the upward direction to see it. While some dogs may be tempted to rotate around and you may have to repeat this step several times until you get the desired behavior. And don't forget to praise your dog lavishly for correct behavior before you go on to repeat the command.

Once you are able to keep him in one place, you need to ensure that your dog continues to remain stationary even when you are away. So, take a step back, then another, then four steps more, and so on. You will realize that the further you go, lesser the control, as the dog will be tempted to follow you, the alpha.

Alternatively, you can use a leash or rope to control his movements. Just tie it to a tree or a post a little away from the dog, and hold the leash before you give the stay command. Face the dog and when he stands and takes a step forward, gently tug on the leash as you give the verbal command along with hand gesture. Make sure that you don't pull too hard; after all you are only trying to train him!!!

For dogs that tend to relax and stretch while exercising especially when you are a few feet away, you may need to train an 'up'-'sit' combination before you proceed to the next fundamental step "stay".

Techniques used in training sessions and the time required will vary according to the breed of the dog however, all of them will eventually learn these fundamental behaviors at some point of time. Once your dog understands the "stay" command and remains stationary for some time, give the "come" command in a particular tone and hand gesture. Increase the duration of the "stay" gradually and pamper him with treats and praises as he learns these important behaviors.

Clicker Training Your Puppy - Are Treats the Only Option?

Clicker training your puppy can be a fun and rewarding experience. However, many pet parents give up on clicker training too soon because they're under the false impression that only food and treats can be used as reinforcers.

Clicker training depends on a reinforcer that is presented by the trainer with correct timing to the dog. This can be anything the puppy likes, such as toys, play time, a pat on the head, etc.

Food is commonly used as a reinforcer mainly because most dogs are very motivated to work for food. They need food to survive. Many successful dog trainers don't even own a food bowl for their dogs. They make them earn each and every piece of kibble they eat.

During the initial phase of learning it's usually best to use food and treats to reinforce the desired behavior. This is because toys, play time and petting can often slow down the training process.

However, once he starts to "get it" these other things can certainly be used as reinforcers while clicker training your puppy. In fact, varying the types of reinforcers you offer is recommended to keep things interesting and unpredictable.

Some owners find it difficult to train with treats because the puppy is "a picky eater." This usually occurs for two reasons:

1. The puppy has recently eaten a meal and isn't hungry.
2. The owner is not using treats that are unique to training and/or better than the puppies normal dinner.

A simple solution is to not to feed your puppy any food or treats 4-6 hours before training time (you can go longer if the puppy is older than a few months old or so) and to only use highly palatable treats that the puppy only gets during training time.

Remember that the clicker and treats are only used for learning a new behavior or for performing the learned behavior in a new or more challenging environment. Once the behavior is learned you don't need to reinforce with treats on a regular basis (although your puppy certainly won't mind if you do!).

It's usually a good idea NOT to use store-bought puppy treats during clicker training. This is because most commercial products take too long to chew--and that's going to mess up your timing. Plus--puppies have a short attention span. In the middle of chewing he might decide that chasing his tail seems like more fun!

Dog Training Tricks - Cool Dog Tricks To Teach Your Dog

Dogs are smart animals that can learn fun and cool tricks easily when properly trained. Teaching your dog tricks does not only make your dog smarter, it's also a fun thing to do for the owner. Good news is that training a dog is not really that difficult. You can begin with simple dog training tricks before proceeding with advanced dog training. Here's how owners can start with simple training:

Giving treats. Dog food is one of the most helpful things that trainers can use for simple dog training because these pets react easily to food. The trainer can begin with giving treats for dog behavior training until the dog becomes more obedient to commands even if there's no more treat.

Repetition. When teaching dog tricks the trainer has to be patient because pet dogs understand better from repetition. In this way, there is more consistency and the behavior or actions that they have learned become more solid.

Regular training. Like regular exercise for optimum results, dog agility training should be done every day so the pet will not forget the tricks they are taught. Doing this will make the lessons such as the training process, the commands and the dog's obedience stick with them and continue on.

Dog clickers. Using a clicker to teach dog tricks is also very helpful especially because the hearing sense of dogs is very sensitive. They respond to the sound that the clicker makes and it will be easier for them to familiarize the command and the sound so clicker dog training tricksare essential.

Hand motions. Aside from using dog clickers, the trainer can also use hand motions to teach fun dog tricks. When they see physical commands such as rolling over, they can associate the verbal command with the hand movements.

Basic commands. One way of curing dog aggression or unwanted behaviors is to teach them basic commands like sit stay fetch. They serve as the fundamental ways that make toilet training dogs easier to achieve. Moreover, the basic commands also pave the way for advanced dog training for more difficult or impressive tricks.

The Benefits of Teaching Dog Tricks

It is important for trainers to keep in mind that training your dog to do tricks should be safe for the pet and any training technique that may hurt them is not advisable. Training your dog should not be too stressful also which means you don't need to spend the entire day to do the training. Keeping it short will make the pet more focused and willing to get back to it the next day.

Some trainers may want to enroll their pets in group trainings so their dog can socialize with other pets while some prefer individual training. Both methods for teaching dog tricks are highly effective so the owners can choose whichever suits them.

The importance of simple dog training and teaching dogs the basic commands is that it improves their behavior and trains them to avoid doing unpleasant behaviors such as chewing on shoes or carpets or peeing on the wrong places. While training your dog to walk on a leash, you can also teach them proper toilet training. Further, basic training and teaching them to come, sit, stay or stand can promote bonding and play time between owner and pet. Treats can also be used to lure the dog to do the commands and should be given to pets every time they do a trick successfully

Advanced dog training often makes performers out of dogs and people become more impressed or entertained with them because of this. Learning the basics will prepare the dogs to do more complicated tricks such as backing up, catching something, crawling, dancing, playing dead or shaking. Compared to basics commands, training your dogs to do tricks like these also require more persistence from the trainer and the training doesn't need to be every day.

If they teach dog tricks to pets, trainers can develop better communication with dogs and in return, the pets will open up more to trainers. The pet may also gain more confidence from the training and their high energy can be put to good use. Moreover, some people are afraid of dogs and one way to make them feel less threatened around these pets is if they see the dogs performing impressive and fun dog tricks.

Dog training tricks can be quite a lot of work, require a lot of patience and need sufficient time but returns rewarding experiences both for dogs and trainers or owners.

How To Stop Your Parrot's Biting In 7 Days

Do you own a parrot that bites? Would you like me to share some proven principals for getting your parrot to stop biting? If so, you're about to discover how to get rid of your parrot's biting, using a strategy I call "Target Training".

Never heard of target training? I'm not surprised. Most so called parrot behavior "Gurus" have been so busy standing on their soapboxes, preaching to everyone that "if we just loved our parrots more, they'd start to be nice" - what a bunch of garbage! And what they're preaching couldn't be further from the truth.

Let's face it. When most people buy a baby parrot, it's just been hand fed, it's still a baby, not yet strong enough to bite, and it's the cutest, cuddliest little thing in the world. And they actually stay that way, for several months & even years.

But then every parrot eventually comes into what I call their "Teenage Years". It's basically puberty for your bird. Its hormones are a wreck, it starts wanting a mate, and just like your teenage kids, parrot's tend to become a bit troublesome during this time, and there's no amount of love that can turn their behavior around. Instead the magical fix is to do what every therapist says to their emotionally challenged clients when their relationships are in a mess - "work on strengthening your communication".

And that's exactly what "Target Training" does. It develops a level of communication with your bird that both of you can understand.

Here's how it works. You train your parrot to understand simple commands from you, or cues. Then you teach your parrot that whenever he follows these cues, he gets rewarded - usually with a really tasty treat! The more commands you teach your parrot, the better the level of communication and the more your parrot will trust you, and cease to bite you.

The very first and most basic level of target training is teaching your parrot to touch the end of a small wooden stick, or wooden dowel. You reward your parrot every time he touches the end of the wooden dowel by giving him a treat each time, even if when he touches it, he's lashing out at the dowel.

And with time, the parrot realizes that you're calling the shots, and that you're actually opening up a new level of communication to him that he never knew existed. He'll start to realize that if he follows your cues, and touches the end of the stick like you've asked him to, that you'll reward him... and reward him well.

Your parrot will start to trust you so much, that a well target trained parrot, can be known to actually be trained to do whatever it takes to touch the end of that stick, even by flying or walking over your entire house, just to obey your cues.

By focusing on training your parrot to "Target" or touch the end of a stick, you'll open up that level of communication it takes to get your parrot to realize you really are a nice person and that he doesn't need to bite you to get what he wants after all. Making your parrot training efforts MUCH easier!

Avoid Training Using the Word "No"

Before you even start to train your dog, learn to eliminate the word "no" from you training vocabulary. Very often the command "no" is what your dog will hear. He is also expected to know what that means. There is no training method or command called "no". Avoiding any negative communication with your dog is good because the tend to undermine the relationship that you are trying to build. Do not use his name and then use the word no. He will think that since you are using his name in the command that he is being encouraged to do something that you really do not want him to do.

Also do not nag him by using his name and not expressing what it is you want him to do. By using the word "no" too much which people don't realize is bad will cause your dog to think that his name is "No Bad Dog". Focus on the way that you talk to your dog. Make sure you are positive towards him instead of being so negative because he is doing something wrong. Sit back and see how many times you use the word "no" and how many times you say "good dog". From experience a lot of people always use the word "no" in their training methods and that is why they do not succeed in their training. Also if you feel that you are in a bad mood before you even attempt to train your dog, then do not even begin with the training. Chances are that you will only get upset with your dog and he will not learn.

Dog Training - Considering Training Schools

A growing number of dog owners apparently prefer training schools, more than the do-it-yourself approach. Canine training schools are usually costly. Nevertheless, should you be lacking the required practical knowledge, or time to allocate for this task, these types of schools can be found to undertake everything to suit your needs, providing you are willing to pay the fees involved.

Training schools for dogs have started appearing throughout nearly every town all over the USA and Europe. Some of these school now even offer a full refund if your expectations are not met with regards to your dogs training. Many of these schools could be the only choice for obstinate pet owners, whose lack of experience simply leaves them no other alternative.

A number of dog owners assert that the money charged by these schools is exceedingly high and unjustified. Even so, if perhaps you take a minute and give consideration to the costs, such as food, apparatus, and training locale, you would - before long, come to realize not all the actual expenses go into the school's own purse. There are actually sizable costs involved in setting up and maintaining a dog training school, including the job salaries for experienced dog handlers who are not cheap to employ, and for good reason too. Seeing as a background check has been performed on the instructor, exactly what better place can there be for the dog to find out to behave better?

Be ready to address the implications associated with taking your pet to training school. Some dogs might come to feel the strain of the experience of the school and react accordingly. Equip yourself with a bag or two along with a scoop, since these will be the most typical signs associated with stress. Keep your dog on a lead, and notice just what interests him or her and what doesn't. It is likely they will not like a few of their other schoolmates a lot and wish to take action, depending of course on your dogs aggressive (or lack of) nature. Finally, do not pass on a negative attitude to your dog, but rather, try to relax and enjoy your self and your dog will most probably do the same. Keep him amused simply by drawing his interest to you, at least till he has had a chance to become familiar with the actual surrounds and thus more at ease. Don't forget that your dog will be nervous of this whole situation, at the beginning anyhow.

With fresh regulations coming forth with regards to public behavior of dogs, training schools are usually the last and only resource for pet dog owners. Especially for breeds such as for example the Boxer, or the Pit Bull, dog owners should place added care and more attention upon their training so that it will save their dog from being put down by regional authorities. But let us focus on all the positives and try not to get weighted down by the negatives.
